It has a strong intro, then it just takes a turn for the worse. Goodbye City Life has also become one of my favorite DST songs.

Re: Dead Soul Tribe

So, with the exception of the first track on Lullaby for the Devil... I really like this album. I really need to give them all a few more listens, but I'd go so far as to say I like this latest one the best.

Re: Dead Soul Tribe

I just bought A Lullaby for the Devil... so far I really like it. Maybe it's because the other albums haven't full sunk in, i don't know. But this album is definitely different but in a great way so far. The break down at the end of Goodbye City Life really struck me. But perhaps I should finish listening to the album...8 tracks to go.

Re: Dead Soul Tribe

A Lullaby for the Devil has grown on me since writing this review. It probably took me longer to warm up to it because it goes in a significantly different direction than their earlier work. In any case, I withdraw any explicit or implicit comments that it is somehow a weak album; it's simply different.

Re: Dead Soul Tribe

I definitely agree with the blending statement. Their discography might actually have a better flow if January Tree was their 2nd album and Murder their 3rd, but as you implied, taking the best parts of the first two releases is a good route for a 3rd one.

Re: Dead Soul Tribe

Just bought The January Tree... so far I've got the first three albums and they just keep getting better. I haven't been able to give it more than one listen yet, but I think i like it better than Murder of Crows... might just be personal preference, but i think the musicianship is better and the drums are certainly better. It also seems to blend the first releases in terms of sound.

Re: Dead Soul Tribe

heh, yeah I guess so. Not a bad way to start off your debut album in my opinion - with Thompson's eerie opening line to FaLiLV.

Re: Dead Soul Tribe

I gather these guys like Fear and Loathing Las Vegas....

Re: Dead Soul Tribe

You are 5 for 5 in my book with your recommendations. I've already hit the Buy button on iTunes. When you said no screaming, soft and mellow - like soul, and progressive rock - it hit a note in me! Great find ... and again I'll write a follow up comment after I heard a few albums.

Re: Dead Soul Tribe

Yeah, I know what you mean. There are points where his fills sound rehearsed, and that's fine if they are rehearsed but it should still sound fluid and natural. He's not winning any awards, but in my opinion it's not bad enough to substantially detract from their sound.

Re: Dead Soul Tribe

Upon your recommendation and listen from the clip, I immediately bought their self-titled and A Murder of Crows. I was definitely not disappointed and I'll probably be making some more purchases in the future. I definitely dig the variety throughout the two albums. But honestly what stuck out the most was the drummer... I felt like he was forcing a lot of his fills, didn't quite feel natural. Even still, DST is yet another great find from Europe, I wonder who else is hiding over there.
